Density translates to how hard the mattress will feel to you in the sleeping position.

Four inches of memory foam will be more soft as there is more memory foam to absorb the body weight in a more equalizing distribution of absorption.

If you like more firm, then the 2&quot; memory foam would be the choice.  I suggest that you test both.  Lay on your side for awhile and see if the density allows your spine to achieve a straight line between your hips and shoulders.
