How good is the memory foam mattress pad?

i hardly sleep at night and i am thinking of buying a foam mattress pad how good are they. will it help me sleep better at night. would it be better for my back. i always wake up with back pain, and neck pain.

I had one and didn’t like it. I was always sweating even when it was cool. I have a spine injury and have found a good cheap Aerobed is the best for me. I’ve had it for a few years and love it. I can adjust it to how my back is feeling every night. And that makes a big difference to me.

I have one and like it. To Francis S. that was a plastic mattress cover on the hotel room bed. They are HOT and terrible!

I have one and it is extremely comfortable. You have to get a good brand I guess; some people are complaining they are hot. Mine is actually cooler than a regular mattress in hot weather. I have a memory foam pillow and it feels much cooler than a regular pillow; it’s very nice.

    Hello,

A mattress pad is good if you have a firm or medium firm mattress that is flat all the way across the top surface. Many older innerspring mattresses get a dip in the middle over time. There is no remedy for a bed like this. The dip will always cause your spine to be out of proper allignment which will cause, discomfort, pain, and prevent you from sleeping.

Having said that, if you have a firm, flat mattress, then a latex or memory foam mattress pad can really help. The idea of a foam mattress pad is that it conforms to your body, supports gentle upward curves like your lower back and neck, evenly distributes the weight of your body, and reduces painful pressure points on your hips, shoulders, knees and elbows.

If you mattress is not firm or flat, or dips in the middle, then you will need a memory foam mattress, instead of just a pad, to get the proper help.

Memory foam toppers and mattresses are the king when it comes to comfort. They help your body get in a neutral spine postion:

This relieves back and neck pain, which in turn increases comfort and allows you to sleep. I had the same sleepless experience that you are having, due to an old injury. Then I started sleeping on a memory foam mattress a few years ago and feel great again.
