We bought a memory foam mattress and box springs about 6 months ago. The box springs keep breaking, the boards just snap. It’s been replaced 5 times, and upgraded the box springs so I can’t blame it on the mfg ! I have asked if we need some kind of special bedframe, ours is just metal with a cross bar, and was told it should be fine. Please help! This is getting embarassing!

The boards can only break if it is a cheaply built foundation or the steel frame underneathe the foundation is lacking center support. Check out Flobeds they make some really heavy duty foundations.

I have a memory foam mattress topper now and I like it but would like to buy one a little thicker. I do not remember what brand the one I currently have is. What is the best brand to buy to help with back and hip pain through the night?

walmart, they have a thin & thick, my kid like the thin one, the thick is a little pricier, but I think they’re good!

they can be, but I"ve found that by using a high thread count sheet and a mattress pad that lowers the temp, that I stay very cool..

I was just curious as to the point of most foam mattress pads having that egg shell texture. Some are flat on both sides, but most seem to have this bumpy thing going on. I assume there’s some kind of reasoning behind this, anyone know what it is? Thanks.

The "egg crate" texture allows them to be soft but still be firm, if that makes sense. Your body presses down on the bumps and they collapse to the same level as the lower areas. Hospitals use egg-crate mattresses and pads to prevent pressure ulcers (bed sores) because they don’t press back against the skin all at the same place and the same pressure.

I just bought a $1500 memory foam mattress and now my lower back is hurting even more than before. I can barely get up in the morning or get out of a low chair (like a car seat) some days. What could be going on here and how can I fix it. I dont have health insurance and am kinda broke so a doctor does not seem to be in my near future.

As rebel g said, you could have bulged or ruptured discs in your back as I do. You should really go to a doctor before it gets worse. My back specialist said for someone with back problems it is best to sleep on a firm mattress. He suggested to me that I put a sheet of ply-wood in between my mattress and box springs. Since I got a firmer mattress and put the wood under it I sleep better and don’t hurt half as much as I did, especially in the mornings.

I’ve been shopping online for a memory foam mattress and I found one for a good price that is 5" thick. Is this good enough for sleeping on every night?

I’ve never been on a memory foam mattress before and was wondering what depth you have tried and what you thought about it.

if this is going to be your main mattress for sleeping every night you will need it to be at least 10 inches deep. Those other 2-5 inch ones are meant to bump up your regular mattress for a better sleep.

Your night’s sleep is important; skimp on something else, not your mattress.

I bought a queen sized sealy mattress from costco when I moved for school last year and since I have a contemporary style bed, the box spring looked funny. Thinking it was only to raise the height, I got rid of the box spring. Well now, 1 year later I realize what a mistake that was. I have constant back pain and my bed is just extremely uncomfortable. I don’t mind buying another mattress now, so can I use the current mattress as a box spring? I want to buy a memory foam this time because I have lower back problems as well as alwaying waking up in the morning extremely tired. What do you guys recommend? I would as the stores but I’m not sure if they’ll give advice that isn’t coming from a business standpoint for them.

You need a solid foundation under any mattress. IKEA sells these wooden slats for like $45 that can be used instead of a box spring. You might try getting something that or some other wooden foundaton. Even a piece of plywood.

You can also buy a memory foam top for your existing mattress for about $100.00. I have that and I love it!

im buying a memory foam mattress and 1 says 60kg squared and other says 65kg/3 what does this mean and what 1 is best
the 60kg squared is 4" of memory foam and 6" of polyurathene foam the other 1 is 65kg/3 is 2"of memory foam and 6"of reflex what 1 is best?

Density translates to how hard the mattress will feel to you in the sleeping position.

Four inches of memory foam will be more soft as there is more memory foam to absorb the body weight in a more equalizing distribution of absorption.

If you like more firm, then the 2" memory foam would be the choice. I suggest that you test both. Lay on your side for awhile and see if the density allows your spine to achieve a straight line between your hips and shoulders.

There are retailers who will allow one to test their mattresses for like 30 days.

How long does a memory foam mattress last? I think the regular spring bed usually last 10 years before the springs are worn out.

One of the first companies to make this claim was the Tempur-pedic bed with the “visco elastic foam” that they claimed was a superior bed because the bed supposedly conformed to your body. I knew a lady who bought this very expensive bed and she liked it but said that she paid too much money because there were other companies making similar products for less money.

I wanted a new bed but knew that it wasn’t in my budget at the time. I bought a bed “topper.” This is supposed to be of the same material as the Temur-pedic bed but is just a piece of foam that fits over the top of your old mattress. I think mine was 6 inches thick and was very heavy. I have used mine for several years now and I must say that I am very comfortable while sleeping on it. To answer you question more clearly I will say that I haven’t noticed any degrading of the foam itself in several years. I can’t say for sure how long it will last but I don’t see any problems in the near future. All beds are made of various type of foam and they last for many years. Based on this I would say that it should last at least as long as any other mattress and they can last many years depending on how there treated. All manufactures of mattresses will tell you to periodically flip the mattress and change it end for end (place the head at the foot and the foot at the head.) This will make the mattress last longer by not having any uneven wear or saggy spots.

I got a Canopy 4" Hypoallergenic Memory Foam Mattress Topper for Christmas and I no longer have the box and the instructions don’t say which side the green side is: top or bottom.
there is no zipper and neither side is convoluted.
