What is the best way to cut foam?

I need to cut the foam down in a bench seat so its not so thick, its about two and a half foot wide. Kinda big for the elictric knife is there another way to do this? Would a hot wire work?

Use the electric knife, mount/ clamp it horizontally to a flat surface, at the height/thickness you desire, and as you cut, one section will go under the blade the other (top) you can peel back as the cut progresses. the problem(s) with the hot wire, 1. you will not be able to keep it uniformly hot enough to cut , then as it cools, it will stick to the foam. 2.As it melts the foam, the foam will have hard melted spots rather than clean cuts. 3. The fumes created WILL be toxic. 4. You can very easily start a fire that WILL NOT be easy to put out. If you go completely around the perimeter that should leave very little to "freehand" in the center section

i think a hot wire would be the trick to use in this case.

You should use a serrated knife. A hot wire will give off toxic fumes as it melts the foam.

Well depending on how dense the foam is you might get away with using a hand saw.
