I am needing to make a costume for the Easter play and plan to use poly foam that is one inch thick.?

What is the best way to cut poly foam. I also need to know if there is a medium that works well to color it, or if I should just sew a pillow case type cover to add the needed color.

Wow, I wonder if you could find quarter inch foam? That’s usually much easier and less hot for costumes, although it is still hot. To cut 1-inch foam, the best thing to use is an electric knife like Grampa uses to carve the holiday turkey.

I’ve never found anything that works to color foam. A cover is a good idea. If you switch to quarter inch foam, you can sew fabric to it, thus eliminating the extra pillowcase layer.

Use really sharp scissors or as Kacky says, use the electric carving knife. But the foam will dull your scissors or knife blades. Be warned!!

I have also used the regular butcher knife sharpened up really well.

You might try koolaide dye in ketchup bottles?

1 pkg unsweetened kool aide, 1/4 cup vinegar, and 2 cups water per color and "space dye" the thing. Lay it in the sun or somewhere til the color sets in there.
