How to cut foam case lining?
I’ve got an aluminium case for some glass equipment and want to cut out spaces in the foam lining to keep the items secure?
Can anyone please tell me how to do it to make it look tidy and proffessional? And make it function?
Any links to instructions or clips would be very much appreiated. Thanks.
If the pieces you want in the foam lining are rounded and you want round depressions, I am not sure how you would do that.
If you manage to pull the lining, or have additional foam to add, you can use a craft knife, scalpal looking thing, or a utility knife. Use the pieces as templates and draw around them.
If there are two pieces of foam, and you have rounded stuff to put in, I would try to work out the flat stuff and hope the rounded edges of your stuff will compress the foam enough to give it a memory and hold it in place.
Other than that, there are sewing electric scissors that could help.
I don’t know about pics and clips, but to cut foam circles, you could use an electric can opener to open a can, empty contents and use like a cookie cutter in the foam. Otherwise, I have seen people use electric carving knives.

It’s quite easy actually. Using a utility knife ( the kind with the replacable snap off blades) gently & carefully cut the outline of the glass object into the foam rubber or styrofoam, To cut the inside of the outline out, cut at an angle, piece by piece you will be able to carve out the shape.
You could also use two layers of foam. Cut the shape out of one layer and place on the second layer to form a bottom. To make cutting easier you may want to use the blade without the handle. You can also break the blade off so that it would fit into your cutting area.

Go to a store like Hobby Lobby and pick up an electric knife for cutting foam. They sell different types of foam, and the goodies to deal with it, plus their people have all kinds of tips and tricks to do it right.
