Where can i find some good sized, thick flexible foam/foam rubber?

March 4, 2010 - 3:23 pm 2 Comments

I am working on something that would require my getting like a sheet of foam rubber or something that I could cut pieces out (about a foot in length) and that I can attach to a sleeve, also flexible enough for it to bend a little bit with my arm?

so basically, need to find a place that offers sheets of foam

the bedroll mats at the hardware stores is probably what you are looking for here. It is really very inexpensive that way. If you buy it at Joannes or Micheals you will pay what my daughter was looking at in tool box liners at Sears!!! Instead of $25 we paid about $5 and it was enough to go under a bedroll so we had some left over after doing her toolboxes.

You will find a use for the rest of it!!

You can use the Aleene’s glue or super glue if you are careful to glue it together, but I liked where we put duct tape on it.

What type of foam rubber for sleeping?

I need to replace my motorhome bench seat cushion foam rubber with something more solid for sleeping, some firm foam rubber. Anyone know one foam rubber from another and what company will custom cut them.

The Army Surplus Store always had large pieces of foam rubber of various densities and firmness.

The memory foam mattress we got used on Craigslist from a military couple moving over seas. It was very reasonable price but a little firm for me. A little Lysol Spray Disinfectant and it was as good as new.

Our old camper had some cheesy weak foam rubber in it too like you sank directly to the wood beneath and had no comfort.

Dog training, how do you stop dogs from chewing furniture? Vinyl and foam rubber? I’ve tried all the usual.

I’ve got two three year old lab crosses, they were brought up in kennels and although not domestic animals are very friendly. the problem comes when they are left alone for any length of time, they chew the sofa to bits. They have all manner of chew toys etc but they love the sofa. I’ve tried pet repellent, even black pepper but all to no avail……any other serious idea’s?

Crate them when they’re unattended. If they were brought up in kennels, they shouldn’t have a problem with it. It is much safer for them and will save you a fortune in replacements!

making a mold with RTV silicone rubber &urethane foam?

February 5, 2010 - 6:09 am 1 Comment

How do you make a mold of an object using urethane foam and/or RTV silicone rubber, and are there any substitutes for either one if you can’t find them?

RTV silicon rubber is usually poured, it’s fairly liquid.
You can also use 100% silicon rubber from any hardware store. Squirting it into a pan of water with plenty dishwashing liquid in there allows you to shape the silicone into patties which can be used for mold making.
But if you google RTV silicone rubber you find about a hundred place which are happy to sell it to you. Same with urethane.
But if you want to substitute, it really depends why you want to use urethane. Light weight important? If not you could use plaster or hydrocal for less fragility. Resins tend to be expensive, but for something small might be appropriate.
Wax, chocolate, concrete are all substances which can be poured and have been used for sculptures…

How you make a mold of an object depends largely on your object. You can find plenty of general instructions for mold making online.

At school we have to make shoes to walk on eggs. We can use foam, styro foam, rubber, and bubble wrap?

January 22, 2010 - 11:34 am 3 Comments

we can use different items also

Foam sounds like a good material for contact with the eggs, it would avoid stress concentrations at the highest point. Also… can you make the shoes considerably larger than a typical shoe (Sasquatch shoes?), to distribute the weight over more eggs? Snowshoes work by distributing weight like that. You would need something rigid to distribute the weight (styrofoam?) with thick rubber foam attached to the bottom.

How to remove carpet rubber foam from floor?

January 20, 2010 - 7:55 pm 1 Comment

I’m trying to remove a carpet backing.. It is a rubber foam backing and is glued the carpet cement…I pulled capet up..But foam backing stayed…I have a sharp small scraper… I want to put down flloe tiles and I have to have plywood clean..It is a very long acking process on my old acking back and knees….Does anyone have the right way to do this??

They make several types of stand up scrapers that will do the job. Some with sharp replaceable blades and some with a heavy duty all purpose blade .
Trying to use any type solvent is way to messy and dangerous and wetting it wont get the glue up. GL

Where to buy Foam/ Rubber Sheets for crafting?

Where can I buy foam / rubber sheets? Do you think Walgreens or Walmart sell them?
Thank ^_^

Some Walmart stores have great craft sections and sell just about anything like this. Some dollar stores also have craft sections that are worth checking out but Michaels has a bigger selection.
