Wash Foam Matress Pad?

December 31, 2009 - 2:13 pm 3 Comments

Can it be washed in a washing machine?

What would happen if I did wash it in a washing machine although it shouldn’t be?

It’s turned yellow since last year when I bought it and its supposed to last 5 years according to the package. I have no real problem with the color, but I assume it should be cleaned after a while like almost everything else on a bed (except for the matress being of course).

There aren’t any details on how to wash it and since this is the first time I’ve ever used on I’m pretty much clueless.
I just read somewhere the yellow color is completely normal, but still want to know if it can be washed (out of curiosity).

YOU CAN WASH IT AND YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD. HOWEVER, DUE TO ITS POROUS NATURE, WASH IT ON THE "GENTLE CYCLE" OF YOUR MACHINE. DO NOT DRY IT IN THE DRYER…JUST LET IT AIR-DRY. PUT SOME FABRIC SOFTENER IN TO MAKE IT SMELL GOOD!

IF YOU WASH IT IN A MACHINE ON A SETTING LIKE, "HEAVY" IT MAY TEAR PIECES OF IT OFF. THEN, YOU’RE STUCK PICKING THE PIECES OUT OF THE WASHER.

Has anyone tried checking-in an LCD monitor when taking a flight?

December 28, 2009 - 6:01 pm 1 Comment

I have a 30 inch monitor that i want to bring on a flight to another city. Its used but I have all the original foam packaging and box. Is it safe to check it in as a check-in luggage? I’m planning to bubble wrap the box with 4 layers of bubble wrap too. Will appreciate some advise from anyone who has done this. Thanks!!!
Thanks Rak for your advise. I’m more concerned about the screen surviving the trip as a check-in (not hand carry) item.

I don’t think so this would create any kind of problem because whenever I fly I carry my lappie with me and I haven’t had any kind of problem with custom officer I do carry it within a leather bag which comes with it.
No Idea Dude must ask to custom officer

need help NOW.how do you determine how many stamps to use when you mail stuff?

December 26, 2009 - 1:22 am 1 Comment

i need to mail in my caps and order form TODAY.
i bought a foam letter packaging because its the only envelope that it can fit in,
but how many stamps do i use??
ooh, and will something happen if i put too much stamps..??

you will have to weigh it – so unless you have a small scale, go to the post office – it is 41 cents for the first ounce – if you guess you’ll probably be wrong. most post offices have a scale where you don’t have to stand in line.

good luck

Does packaging foam float?

Does the foam you use when you package stuff float in water? If it was completely submerged in water will it just come back up?

Yes and yes.

How long do portabella mushrooms caps last in the fridge?

December 12, 2009 - 8:10 pm 1 Comment

They are the kind that come in a foam/saran-wrap type package. There is no date on them. And what’s the worst thing that can happen if you cook and eat them when they’re "too old"?

Here’s what I’ve heard – Rachael Ray said the following about mushrooms:
1. They will last quite a long time, especially if they are sealed and no water has touched them.
2. As long as there is no mold, weird growths or smells, they are fine.
3. As they age, the tend to "dry out" which is not bad. It just intensifies the flavor.

I must sound like a geek using a Rachael Rayism (she’s not even one of my favorites), but the mushroom thing seemed to make sense.

How do I make an egg survive a 20 foot drop?

December 8, 2009 - 2:42 am 2 Comments

I’m totally out of ideas for our project and would appreciate any help!

So for the project…
-The egg has to be in a 2 liter soda bottle which has to be opened
-The egg has to be visible, so you cant just pack stuff in there
-Cant weigh more than 1 pound
-No commercial packaging (foam, etc)
-Raw eggs, no boiling etc

Any help would be appreciated!
I was thinking of filling the bottle with water, but I’m not if thats good

fill it with cool whip it is more airy and fluffy then water.

I have a set of recaro seats out of a police package lumina
anyways they are just plain warn out
where can I get new foam and cloth to rebuild them?
they don’t have to look exactly the same since they are now in a different car, but they will need to be blue–I may be willing to switch to black if I have to
of course $$ is an issue :)
Thanks

See if Recaro has a website, and maybe you can order the stuff from them.

I have to send back my hard drive and need some instructed packaging to send it to them. I don’t want to order it online because it’ll take to long( I NEED to send it to them in less than 5 days) and for a guy like me its annoying. I need something like the ones in these pictures:

is using disposable food packaging materials haram?

November 19, 2009 - 8:26 am 2 Comments

like styrofoam packs and cups, the chemicals used to produce the foam destroys the ozone layer and the material used in making this is of benzene, a know carcinogenic material. Using this is killing both us and the environment.Any fatwa against using this?

They are haram so you should avoid them as much as possible. In the world we currently live in, it is next to impossible to avoid them entirely (unless you live completely self-sufficient and isolated from the rest of society, like the Amish in America or something), so you have to do the best that you can and don’t bother beating yourself up when you cannot avoid them, the world as we know it will soon come to an end anyway and these materials will be banned in the future. So will PVC plastic which has millions of uses (probably the keyboard I am typing on right now has it) and using gasoline and so forth as they all destroy and alter human body in ways most of us do not want to be altered (unless you were hoping for your children to be hermaphrodites).
