My new foam mattress is like a rock – will it get softer soon like in the store or is something wrong with it?

December 31, 2009 - 2:13 pm 6 Comments

I bought a Therapedic memory foam mattress – it was great in the store – it molded to my body right away. When it was delivered to my house and I lay down on it, it was seriously as hard as a rock. I am unable to sleep on it at night. Is that normal when it’s brand new or is something wrong with the mattress? Does anyone else own one of these and had this happen to them? I’m pretty upset since I spent close to $1000 on it.

I would call the store!! They may have delievered the wrong one, if its supposed to be like foam…

Or, you could have tried out a different model, and bought the wrong one, thinking it was the right one and it wasnt…

Talk to your store rep and see what the problem is.. (Do it before too many days have passed or they may not take it back!).

I wish you well..

Can i sleep on my new memory foam mattress straight away?

December 28, 2009 - 6:01 pm 4 Comments

I bought a silentnight memory foam mattress which was air-tight sealed. In the booklet it says allow the mattress 24 hours to "Recover" before use. It’s been a few hours now and it appears to be in full shape and im anxious to lay on it! What should i do?

Prop it up against a wall and be patient lol. It takes it a good while to recover from the air-tight compression so give it time and enjoy testing it out tomorrow night. :-) Xx

How good is the memory foam mattress pad?

December 26, 2009 - 1:22 am 7 Comments

i hardly sleep at night and i am thinking of buying a foam mattress pad how good are they. will it help me sleep better at night. would it be better for my back. i always wake up with back pain, and neck pain.

I had one and didn’t like it. I was always sweating even when it was cool. I have a spine injury and have found a good cheap Aerobed is the best for me. I’ve had it for a few years and love it. I can adjust it to how my back is feeling every night. And that makes a big difference to me.

Should I use a regular cotton mattress pad with a memory foam mattress topper?

Just got a new memory foam mattress topper and not sure if it will be too hot and unbreathable without the mattress pad.

You will want to buy a good quality matress pad. Because the memory foam toppers increase your body temp by 2-3 degrees at night. So you want something that will keep a fair amount of distance off the foam itself. You could even try a feather bed to go over the foam. Plus those are very comfy and cozy. (like sleeping on a cloud)

which memory foam mattress brand is the best?

December 15, 2009 - 1:11 pm 7 Comments

i am told Tempur is the best memory foam mattress brand… is that right? know of any which is better?

Tempur is the better known memory foam mattress brand… yes, but is not necessarily the best. New Horizon brand memory foam mattresses are made in the UK and sold via http://www.internetmemorymattress.co.uk Being an online business, they sell their mattresses for much cheaper and the quality is really comparable.

Are you supposed to put a mattress pad over a foam pad?

December 12, 2009 - 8:11 pm 2 Comments

I just bought a memory foam pad yesterday for my bed. My mattress is memory foam but it’s a little too firm for my liking, so I figured this would make it softer. Last night I slept on the new foam with my original thick cotton mattress pad on top and I don’t really think I got the full effects of the foam because of it. So just now I removed the cotton mattress pad and just put my bed sheet over the foam. The problem is you can see through the sheet and see the foam and the holes it has for the temperature. It just doesn’t look right. Is it supposed to be like that or should I buy a very thin pad to put on top of the foam? I’m so confused! What is the correct way to put a foam mattress pad on? Right now I just have:

Mattress
Foam Pad
Bed Sheet Over Foam
Then my normal sheet, blanket and duvet cover.

yes i would try a very thin pad ontop and see how you like it.

you can also call the place you got the bed and ask for advice :) they will know what 2 do

How do I clean a Tempur-Pedic (memory foam) mattress and pillow?

December 8, 2009 - 2:42 am 3 Comments

I have a Queen size memory foam mattress and pillow, both under the brand name Tempur-Pedic. They’re great, but I find I’m having difficulty cleaning them … for example, the cat threw up a hairball on the mattress the other day, and I could spot-clean the stain with Lysol, water/soap and Febreeze, but I don’t think that was sanitary enough.

With the pillow, I was told by the salesperson you can’t wash it in the washer/dryer, but what are you supposed to do freshen it up (obviously, I change and wash the pillowcases frequently)? For now, I’m putting talcum powder and/or Febreeze on it, but that doesn’t seem to really be hygenic. Any suggestions on how to clean it?

Thanks!
I do have a mattress cover that is removable, however, the stain went straight through that on to the actual mattress. So, yes, I can remove the cover and wash that, but it still doesn’t help me with cleaning the actual mattress. And being waterproof won’t rid it of the smell and bacteria of the cat vomit, unfortunately.

I told my sister to do this and it worked: Wash it outside by hand with a hose and some kind of soap that does not contain oils and that is not strong. My sister used her leftover bubble bath and it worked great. It will take a couple of days to sun dry but the sun is a natural disinfectant too. I would try to hang them so it can drip dry also.

Good luck and happy cleaning!!!!

How do you clean memory foam mattress topper?

December 3, 2009 - 1:55 am 2 Comments

If someone has night sweats (showers every day) and has a memory foam mattress topper that has started to smell funny, how do you clean/freshen the topper?

They sell a spray can of carpet freshener or of fabric refresher, then spray it on, let it dry, then you can vacuum it if you want but you don’t have to. They sell it right at the Dollar Tree and its a foam you spray on.

whats the best memory foam mattress?

Looking for a new mattress with the memory foam. Which is the best brand to look at that is reasonibly priced?

I bought one 2 years ago paid over 1000.00 and I hated it after 1 1/2 yrs.
the foam breaks down and settles to your shape and then gives no support.. I went back to my old bed till i can afford a new spring mattress. They will not warranty it until it settles 1 in. down… I would buy a 750+ spring count mattress if it were me.. Sorry
